When deciding its time for a new office chair there are a number of things to look for when choosing an office chair:

Seat height. The seat height should be easily adjustable on an ergonomic office chair. A pneumatic adjustment lever often on the side of the chair and it is used to adjust the chair up or down. The aim is to have your feet flat on the floor, with thighs horizontal and arms even with the height of the desk.

Backrest. The backrest of an ergonomic office chair should be able to support the natural curve of the spine, with particular attention being paid to good. If the backrest is separate from the seat, it should be adjustable in both height and angle. If the office chair has the seat and backrest together as one piece, the backrest should be adjustable in forward and back angles, with a locking mechanism to secure it once the you have chosen the right position

Seat width and depth. The seat should have enough width and depth to support you comfortably. The ideal depth (from front to back of the seat) needs to be enough so that the you can sit with your back against the backrest while leaving approximately 50mm to 100mm between the back of the knees and the seat of the chair.

Lumbar support. Lower back support in is very important. The lumbar spine has an inward curve, and sitting for long periods without support for this curve tends to lead to slouching which can strains the lower spine. A wel design chair will have lumbar adjustment (both height and depth) so you can get the proper fit to support the inward curve of your lower back.

Seat material. The material on the office chair should have enough padding to be comfortable to sit on for long periods of time. A cloth fabric that breathes is often the best option.

Swivel. The main reason for a swivel is so that you can easily rotate to reach different areas of his or her desk without straining.

There are many factors involved in good ergonomic including desk height and screen height if you are using a computer of some sort.
